The incident took place around 2:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, at a Hampton Bays home, said Southampton Police Lt. Susan Ralph.

According to Ralph, the department received a 911 call that reported an intruder in a home. The intruder entered through an unlocked door and entered one of the rooms where the homeowner was sleeping.

The homeowner woke up and began to struggle with the intruder, Ralph said.

Southampton Town Police officers arrived and the intruder was caught inside the residence and taken to police headquarters to be questioned by detectives.

While being questioned Antonio Rojas-Leon, 20, of Hampton Bays, became belligerent and attempted to head-butt the officers.

Rojas-Leon was charged with burglary and obstruction of governmental administration.

He is being held for arraignment.

The Southampton Town Police Department wants to remind the community that it is important to lock your doors.

"Don’t let a Grinch ruin your Holiday Season and remember there are people who want what you have," Ralph said.
